This is the squirm-fest for you if you want your horror focusing on human misdeeds rather than otherworldly monsters.

Since they are so difficult to pull off, I like horror films that rely only on eerie performances. And Mark Duplass deserves all the credit. He is, in fact, really unnerving.

1922 (2017)
One of the best adaptations of Stephen King’s book 1922, this slow-burning horror film features a fascinating lead performance. Wilfred James, a farmer with a prideful streak who murders his wife with the aid of their adolescent son, is played to perfection by Thomas Jane, well known for his roles in Boogie Nights and 2004’s The Punisher.

In part, the inspiration for this psychological horror comes from Isa Mazzei’s time as a camgirl (or webcam model). Cam, on the other hand, is not a documentary about Alice Ackerman, a teenage camgirl who one day realizes that a copy of herself has taken over her show on the internet. Hit the play button on this red-hot thriller that flashes the menace of technology in its wake.

Vampires vs. the Bronx (2020)

Comedy-horror vampires vs. the Bronx the story is set in the Bronx, New York, and centers on 12-year-old Miguel Martinez, who is doing his part to generate money for his family’s struggling bodega. Creepy pale neck-chompers are devouring individuals and their homes, too. New York City’s gentrification is the subject of Vampires vs. the Bronx, an interesting new take on the vampire genre.
